Search demand
What “near me” searches reveal about local demand

How to turn the phrases nearby customers actually type into honest, high-intent improvements to your profile, before your rating ever enters the picture.
Most customers search before they ever read a review
It is easy to obsess over your star rating and forget how the decision usually starts. A nearby customer types something like "plumber near me" or "late checkout hotel" and picks from the handful of businesses that come up. Your rating only matters once you are in that handful.
That means the words people use are worth as much attention as the reviews they leave. They are a running read on what your local market actually wants, in its own language.
What the phrases are telling you
- The needs behind the search: parking, late hours, a specific service, a price point.
- The exact wording customers use, which is often not the wording on your profile.
- The searches you show up for, and the ones where you are nowhere to be found.
- Demand you could meet but never named, because you assumed nobody was asking.
Turn demand into honest improvements
The point is not to stuff keywords anywhere they fit. It is to make your profile honestly reflect what you genuinely offer, in the words people actually search. If customers keep looking for something you do but never mention, say it plainly. If they search for something you do not offer, that is useful to know too.
This pairs directly with your profile gaps: the searches tell you which gaps are worth closing first.
Track it over time, not once
Demand shifts with the seasons and with your area, so a single snapshot is not enough. The businesses that stay visible watch how their coverage and position move month to month and adjust, rather than setting a profile once and hoping. It is the same lesson as reviews: momentum matters more than any single moment.
